Teach English to Children

Children have minds that are growing quickly. The rapid development of their minds makes it relatively easy for children who do not speak English as their native language to learn English as a second language. The younger a child is when she begins to learn English, the less likely she will be to speak with an accent. With a little dedication and a little planning, the child who is just learning English will be able to acquire the language quickly.

As the bilingual child continues learning and interacting in more than one language, the brain develops the ability to quickly determine which language to use in a situation.

Teaching Tips

  • Use songs to introduce English to your children. Songs are a great way to get the language into their minds, while giving them melody as a way to retain the words. Start out with easy songs such as the ABC song.

  • Use animated stories to help you teach. The bright colors and careful pronunciation of English-language animated films and television shows captures children's attention, while making it easy for them to understand.

  • Use the Internet as a resource. The internet has many sites created to help children learn English through games, songs and other activities. This will allow the child to acquire grammar and vocabulary skills, as well as important and valuable computer skills
